Call for applications: AAHM's Pressman-Burroughs Wellcome Award, 2013

The American Association for the History of Medicine (AAHM) welcomes applicants for the *Jack D. Pressman-Burroughs Wellcome Fund Career Development Award in 20th Century History of Medicine or Biomedical Sciences* ** This award honors Jack D. Pressman, Ph.D., a distinguished historian of medicine and Associate Professor of the History of the Health Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco at the time of his early and unexpected death in June 1997. The award and stipend of $1,000 is given yearly for outstanding work in twentieth-century history of medicine or medical biomedical sciences, as demonstrated by the completion of the Ph.D. and a proposal to turn the dissertation into a publishable monograph. The Ph.D. must have been completed and the degree granted within the last five years (i.e., 2008--2012). The application must include a curriculum vitae, the dissertation abstract, a one-page summary of the proposed book; a description (not exceeding two page

Conference announcement- Scientiae 2013: Disciplines of Knowing in the Early Modern World University of Warwick (UK), 18th-20th April 2013 The second annual Scientiae conference will take place on the 18-20th of April 2013 at Warwick University in the UK, building on the success of a conference this April (hosted at Simon Fraser University, Vancouver) which brought together over 100 speakers from across the globe to explore the interdisciplinary nature of early modern knowledge. The premise of this conference is that the Scientific Revolution can be considered an interdisciplinary process involving Biblical exegesis, art theory, and literary humanism, as well as natural philosophy, alchemy, occult practices, and trade knowledge. As such, Scientiae will bring together scholars working in the diverse fields associated with early modern knowledge, all taking early-modern science as their common intellectual object.
