No dia 23 de junho, próxima quarta-feira, às 18h30, ocorre o lançamento do livro “Ciência, Civilização e República nos Trópicos” na Blooks Livraria. A obra, organizada por Alda Heizer e Antonio Augusto Passos Videira, reúne 21 textos de diversos pesquisadores, entre os quais Marta de Almeida e Moema de Rezende Vergara, da Coordenação de História da Ciência (CHC) do Museu de Astronomia e Ciências Afins (MAST). Os textos, que tratam das práticas das ciências no Brasil no período chamado de Primeira República ou República Velha, tiveram origem no encontro acadêmico – com o mesmo título do livro – realizado em 2008 no Rio de Janeiro. São trabalhos que descrevem, objetivamente, o domínio da ciência no país daquela época, procurando propor discussões sobre a produção intelectual no campo das ciências nos primeiros anos da República e dialogando com a historiografia conhecida.
