El XIX Congreso de la Sociedad Española de Historia de la Medicina tendrá como objetivo principal reflexionar, desde diferentes metodologías y aproximaciones disciplinares, sobre la construcción histórica de la salud. Desde la organización se anima a participar a investigadoras e investigadores cuyos trabajos tengan relación con la historia de la salud, aunque no estén centrados exclusivamente en la misma. En el congreso tienen cabida diferentes perspectivas históricas y metodologías relacionadas con la salud, como el urbanismo, la medicina, la ciencia, la historia de la sexualidad, el arte, la asistencia, la terapéutica, la cultura material, el racismo, el género, la literatura, las profesiones, los pacientes, la historia de la locura, etc.; y diversas temáticas como los saberes, prácticas, espacios, objetos, experiencias e imaginarios relacionados con la construcción histórica de la salud. Face-to-face with the idea of process, we might think of praxis, or artistic process, as a practice of continuation and development, of adapting to a constant present. We might think of writers and artists adopting a specific process, or how their bodies accrue the residues of their practice. Process also gestures to layers and strata, and the act of building upon something solid in order to speculate something new. We might think of what is ‘unfinished’ or ‘incomplete’, but how this mediates how we read it. Process is dynamic and agile; process can afford mishaps in the pursuit of something that holds depth. We might think of annotations and strikethroughs, of birth and death and how something persists beyond its intended trajectory. We might think of pace and tempo; we might think of the present moment and how it is inextricable from the processes that led to it. The theme for the second annual online Conference next year as well as for Volume 12 of the journal is Dreams, Visions, and Utopias, and submissions are invited to both CFPs that contemplate what is the arguably most ubiquitous and diverse literary genre of the medieval and early modern centuries. Dreams and visions could be personal or communal. They could be of the past, present, or future. Some touched on real events or people, while others were entirely imaginary, and most were somewhere in between. They can encompass the horrors of nightmares to the bliss of salvation, or calls for political freedom and mobilisation as much as an afternoon daydreaming in the sunshine. Dreams are multi-faceted and we hope to elicit a multiplicity of visions for both the conference and the journal. Our 2025 conference will be held entirely online on 26-27 April 2025. All submissions are welcome. The selection committee interprets our theme broadly and encourages proposals that reflect on women's, gender, and queer studies. The conference will include presentations that address issues of women's, gender, and sexuality studies across various disciplines, including, but not limited to, the social studies, humanities, fine arts, activism, and STEM fields. We invite students, faculty, staff, scholars, and activists to propose papers, panels, roundtable discussions, and workshop presentations. The International Gender and Sexuality Studies Conference is presented by the Women's Research Center and the BGLTQ+ Student Center at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) with assistance from the UCO chapter of the National Organization for Women.
