CfP: 2025 Ceræ Conference: Dreams, Visions, and Utopias

The theme for the second annual online Conference next year as well as for Volume 12 of the journal is Dreams, Visions, and Utopias, and submissions are invited to both CFPs that contemplate what is the arguably most ubiquitous and diverse literary genre of the medieval and early modern centuries.

Dreams and visions could be personal or communal. They could be of the past, present, or future. Some touched on real events or people, while others were entirely imaginary, and most were somewhere in between. They can encompass the horrors of nightmares to the bliss of salvation, or calls for political freedom and mobilisation as much as an afternoon daydreaming in the sunshine.

Dreams are multi-faceted and we hope to elicit a multiplicity of visions for both the conference and the journal.

Our 2025 conference will be held entirely online on 26-27 April 2025.

The 2024 inaugural conference celebrated our tenth anniversary by giving graduate scholars an international platform in which to present and share their research with a truly global community. Though many major conferences have returned to a hybrid or even fully in-person format, we believe that an online conference democratizes access to an international body of medieval and early modern scholars by removing the implicit financial burdens of an in-person conference. As an organization dedicated to the needs of a student and early career researcher community in an era of precarious humanities funding, we are proud to announce this fully online event.

Submissions for a 20-minute (+10 minutes Q&A) presentation should be returned to ceraejournal@gmail.com and include:
  • A 150-200 word abstract.
  • Your academic affiliation and title (if any).
  • A short 50-100 word biography.
  • The timezone from which you will be presenting.
  • The deadline for abstract submissions for the conference is 28 February 2025.
