2014-2015 Lemelson Center Fellowships and Travel Grants

Research Opportunities at the Smithsonian's Lemelson Center Application Deadline: January 15, 2014 The Lemelson Center Fellowship and Travel Award programs support projects that present creative approaches to the study of invention and innovation in American society. These include, but are not limited to, historical research and documentation projects resulting in dissertations, theses, publications, exhibitions, educational initiatives, documentary films, or other multimedia products. The programs provide access to the expertise of the Institution's research staff and the vast invention and technology collections of the National Museum of American History (NMAH).   The NMAH Archives Center documents both individuals and firms across a range of time periods and subject areas.   Representative collections include the Western Union Telegraph Company Records, ca. 1840-1994 and the Earl S. Tupper Papers, documenting Tupper, and his invention, Tupperware.   In addition,

Dear Colleagues, We invite contributions of individual papers to join us in the workshop  “The Promises of Science. Historical Perspectives” , to be held in San Sebastian/Donostia (Spain) on 7—9 April, 2014. The workshop will gather historians, philosophers and sociologists of science in the task to analyse the category of “promise” as a historiographical tool to help us understand past and present ideas of science. FCWSRC 2014-2015 Research Associate Program Call for Applications in Intersectionalities in Feminist Science and Technology Studies

We welcome applications from colleagues worldwide for 2014-2015 Associateships in one of three categories: Research Associateship: Colleagues with faculty status at institutions of higher learning are invited to apply. Graduate Associateship in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies: Graduate students at the dissertation stage of their PhD with a research foci in Feminist Science and Technology Studies. This associateship provides opportunities to participate in Five College faculty seminars and workshops. Alumnae Associateship: In the spirit of long-term collaboration between Research Associates and Five College Faculty, this Associateship is awarded to alumnae of the FCWSRC who propose 1) a joint research or teaching project with one or more colleagues located in the Five Colleges to be initiated in 2014-2015 or 2) the continuation of an established research or teaching project in 2014-2015 with one or more colleagues located in the Five Colleges.
