Call for Papers: Transition from Ottoman Empire to Turkish Republic


(1876-1939)


METU Studies in Development is devoting a special issue to the period of transition from the Ottoman Empire to the Turkish Republic, 1876-1939. The aim of the issue as well as each article is to examine the era of transition as a whole and consider to what extent the period was one of continuity, change or rupture. Contributions are welcomed on a wide range of subjects, such as international politics and foreign policy, historiography, politics, economy, law, gender, urbanization, art and architecture, health, press and migration.


All articles will be peer-reviewed. Articles, which can be in either English or Turkish, should be between 7,000 and 10,000 words. Short abstracts of the proposed articles of no more than 300 words should be submitted to the Guest Editors of this special issue, Mustafa Türkes (turkes@metu.edu.tr) and Ebru Boyar (boyar@metu.edu.tr) by 31 May 2010. The full articles should be submitted by 1 March 2011 to http://www.feas.metu.edu.tr/metusd.
