Call for PhD - History of Medicine (ULB, 2010-2014)
The Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB ) offers a four-year grant for a student in the field of Theory and History of Medicine. The aim is to write a PhD dissertation on a topic related to the wider project
Standardizing the difference: Classification and norm-setting as instruments in 20th-century medical practice.
This project is part of a cross-disciplinary program (ARC) involving three research units of the ULB: the Research Centre for Modern and Contemporary Worlds (History), the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Bioethics, and the Institute of Psychiatry and Medical Psychology (Brugmann Medical School of the ULB).
The monthly stipend is of €1700,- (tax free) plus an allowance for special expenses and travel.
Applicants should have a Masters degree in a relevant social science, history or philosophy of science. A special expertise and/or interest in the history of medicine or a related field are preferable. He/she must have a good command of the English and French languages.
