EMPHASIS seminar 2010-2011
The EMPHASIS seminar on early modern philosophy and history of science, held in the School of Advanced Study, London, begins its eighth series on Saturday 16 October 2010, 2-4pm, when Angela Fischel (Humboldt Universität, Berlin) and Fabian Kraemer (Ludwig-Maximlians-Universität Munich and Max Planck Institute Berlin) will be giving papers on Renaissance natural history.
Other speakers this year are: Catherine Wilson, Didier Kahn, Jean-Pierre Brach, Hannah Dawson, Penelope Gouk, Anna Maria Roos, Michael Edwards, Daniel Andersson, Dmitri Levitin, Per Landgren, Alexander Wragge-Morley and Florence Grant,
The themes of this year’s sessions include: History and Natural Philosophy in the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries, Rethinking Representation in Early Modern Natural Philosophy, Soul and Intellect in the Seventeenth Century, and Occult Philosophy in the Renaissance.
