Call for Papers: Life on the Edge: Social, Political and Religious Frontiers in Early Medieval Europe

The call for papers is now open and we invite contributions from members on new findings and research that broadly fit the following themes:
Borderlands and Frontiers
Monuments and Identities
Conversion and Christianization: Material Cultures of Changing Beliefs Landscape, Places, People and Interactions Liminality, Health, Pathology and Disease
Open sessions will also be included at which new findings and work, irrespective of the conference theme, can be presented and showcased.
The closing date for proposals is the 30th April 2012
Proposals for individual papers are now invited (min. 20 min/ max. 30
min) as well as proposals for conference sessions. Sessions should comprise no more than three papers at most.
A title and short abstract of no more than 200 words for either an individual paper or for a session should be submitted for consideration to the Durham conference steering group no later than the 30th April 2012. Proposals should be made by email to 63.sachsensymposion@durham.ac.uk.
Participants are encouraged to submit titles and abstracts in English where possible, but titles and abstracts can be submitted in the proposer's native language too. We will notify you of our acceptance of the proposed paper or session by email within two weeks of the submission deadline.
The email should include the following information:

Student Bursaries
Eight bursaries, each comprising €200 (EUROs), are available to support the attendance and participation of PhD students and Post-Doctoral researchers at the conference. These have been sponsored by the Internationales Sachsensymposion and the Institute of Medieval and Renaissance Studies at Durham University. Members and invited participants should encourage students and post-doctoral researchers who would like to attend to apply for these awards. These bursaries will be used to off-set the cost of the registration, booking and accommodation up to the value of €200 (EUROs), based on the exchange rate on the 30th April, 2012.
A paper title and 200 word abstract should be sent by email by the 30th of April to 63.sachsensymposion@durham.ac.uk. This must be accompanied by a short CV (no more than one-side of A4 paper), and a letter of support from a member of the Internationales Sachsensymposion. These documents should be included as attachments. We will aim to notify applicants regarding the success of their application within three weeks of the submission deadline.
