Call for Nominations: BSHS John Pickstone Prize for the best scholarly book in the field
The British Society for the History of Science has announced a new book prize: the John Pickstone Prize for the best scholarly book in the field (http://www.bshs.org.uk/the-bshs-john-pickstone-prize). This prize honours our esteemed colleague, the late Professor John Pickstone (1944–2014) of the University of Manchester. Complementing the Dingle Prize, which rewards scholarship for broader audiences, the Pickstone Prize aims to recognize pioneering works that advance the scholarly understanding and interpretation of the scientific past. Funding for the initial years of the Pickstone Prize has been guaranteed by the surplus from last year’s International Congress, which is very pleasing and appropriate considering John’s academic roots in Manchester. Nominations can only be made by members of the Society, but the rules announced on the website have been relaxed to allow self-nomi nations and multiple nominations by a single member.
The nomination deadline for the inaugural prize is 15 June.
