Calls for postdoctoral fellowships - Barcelona HPS Group
From the Barcelona HPS (History and Philosophy of Science) Research Group at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB).
Dear all,
we encourage postdoctoral researchers at the interfaces of philosophy and history of science to apply for one of the following positions:
Juan de la Cierva fellowships
A. Junior postdoctoral fellowship: The
Spanish ministry for research and education (Ministerio de Economía y
Competitividad/MINECO) has published a call for a number of 2-year
postdoctoral Juan de la Cierva fellowships, for candidates who have obtained their PhD between 01/01/2014 and 31/12/2015 (for persons with 50% disabilities or more: 01/01/2013 and 31/12/2015). Period of application: 13/01/2016 - 03/02/2016.
Applications by candidates must be included in a matching application
to be submitted by some member of a Spanish institution willing to
incorporate the applicant. See:
B. Advanced postdoctoral fellowship: The same ministry has published a call for a number of 2-year postdoctoral Juan de la Cierva fellowships for
advanced candidates who have already had some postdoctoral training and
obtained their PhD between 01/01/2011 and 31/12/2013 (for persons with 50% disabilities or more: 01/01/2009 and 31/12/2012). Period of application: 11/01/2016 - 01/02/2016.
Again, applications by candidates must be included in a matching
application to be submitted by some member of a Spanish department or
research centre willing to incorporate the successful applicant. See:
The
Barcelona HPS research group's coordinator, Prof. Thomas Sturm, can act
as local supporter of one applicant. The HPS group works with both the
UAB's Department of Philosophy and the Center for History of Science
(CEHIC), and focuses on topics concerning (1) rationality and science,
(2) Kantianism, naturalism, and the philosophy-science relation, (3)
science and ethics. Right now, our main topic is (1), with a particular
interest in projects concerning the interaction between scientific (such
as psychological) theories of rationality and philosophical accounts of
scientific rationality. However, applications with projects belonging
into categories (2) or (3) will be considered as well.
The Department
of Philosophy and the CEHIC provide a lively intellectual environment,
with recent and ongoing research including topics such as: Innovation in
scientific practice; theories of rationality and philosophical
naturalism; cognitive science and philosophy of mind; the epistemology
and ethics of public health; scientific authority; and debates about
centers and peripheries of scientific research.
Feel free to contact Prof. Thomas Sturm (Thomas.Sturm@uab.cat) for further details. Support will be provided subject to an evaluation of the candidate’s curriculum.
Final
note: The ultimate decision concerning these postdoctoral fellowships
are made by the Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad. And, of course,
other Spanish institutions besides the UAB might support applicants.
Kind regards, Thomas Sturm
