Graduate funding opportunities in History and Philosophy of Science at Cambridge, 2017-18
The Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the
University of Cambridge is the largest of its kind in the UK, and has an
unrivalled reputation for teaching and research. Staff have expertise
in the history, philosophy and sociology of a wide range of sciences and
medicine. They run major research projects in association with the
AHRC, Wellcome, the European Research Council and national museums.

For those considering doing a PhD, the Department will be running a workshop at 2-3 pm on Wednesday 2 November 2016
as part of the University's Graduate Open Days. Led by the Director of
Graduate Studies, this workshop will explain the Department's admissions
requirements and procedures. Advice will be provided on finding a
workable topic and potential supervisors, writing a convincing
proposal, securing references and applying for funding. If you plan to

Students applying to start MPhil or PhD in 2017-18 have access to the following studentship opportunities:
Cambridge Trust Scholarships
Overseas
applicants will need to submit graduate applications by 7 December
2016 to be eligible for Cambridge Trust funding. If you are from an EU
country, including the UK, the deadline is 4 January 2017.
Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Studentships: for UK and EU students
To be eligible you must submit your graduate application by 4 January 2017.
Gates Cambridge Scholarships: for students from overseas and the EU (not the UK)
The
deadline for US citizens normally resident in the USA is 12 October
2016; for citizens of all other countries (except the UK) and US
citizens normally resident outside the USA (including current MPhil
students applying to continue to the PhD) the deadline is 7 December
2016.
HPS Trust Fund (Rausing, Williamson and Lipton Studentships): for all MPhil and PhD students
All
applicants will automatically be considered for a maintenance award.
Assessment will be based on information provided in the Applicant
Portal. Initial offers of funding will be made in February, and awards
will continue to be allocated until the application deadline has been
reached, or all the available funding has been committed.
Wellcome Trust Awards: for humanities MPhil and PhD students with a focus on human and/or animal health
1 May deadline for Master's awards. Contact us by 6 January if you wish to be nominated for a PhD studentship.
