Fixed Term: 1 September 2018 – 31 August 2019.
Salary: £8,784 inclusive of London Weighting Allowance.
Working in the Department of History, you will teach the Levels 5 and 6 module, Bodies and Drugs: A Global History of Medicine. You will prepare and teach 20 x 1-hour lectures, two groups of 20 x 1-hour seminars, mark formative and summative coursework, offer a weekly office hour, undertake administrative duties as appropriate and attend specified Department meetings.
Module description:
This module will provide a broad overview of the history of medicine, introducing students to the history of Eurasian medical traditions. The module will follow two trajectories: the first term will focus on the histories of a number of specific medical traditions: Ancient Medicine; Greek and Roman Medicine; Asian medicine; Islamic medicine; Early modern European medicine. The second term will be thematic and will deal with topics like: Histories of the history of medicine; the body in balance; images of the body; medicine and magic; approaches to body-mind; mental health; Placebos.
The module uses a Virtual Learning Environment which already contains extensive material on which you may draw.
You will have a PhD or equivalent in an appropriate field and relevant teaching experience. Our teaching is research-led and the appointed person will be expected to provide evidence of either recent or forthcoming relevant publication.
