CfP: War, Medicine and Emotion (National Army Museum, London (1-2 April 2020)

We will be holding a Wellcome-funded two-day workshop on the history of war, medicine and emotion and related topics at the National Army Museum in London on 1-2 April 2020. The organisers are keen to have papers representing a broad chronological, geographical and disciplinary range. We would particularly welcome papers related to the following contexts:
  • Civilians in war
  • Surgery
  • Race
  • Gender
  • Experience and reflection
  • Imperialism
  • Nationalism
To be considered, please send an abstract of up to 200 words and a short bio to surgeryandemotion@roehampton.ac.uk by 1 December 2019. Proposals for panels of three papers will also be considered. All papers should be 20 minutes long.
The conference is organised by the University of Roehampton Surgery & Emotions project, generously supported by the Wellcome Trust. We also have funds available for a number of travel bursaries for PhD students and early career scholars. To apply for one of these bursaries, please include a 100-word justification with your abstract, telling us how attending the workshop will benefit your career.
If you have any queries, please contact James Kennaway.
