CfP: Recreation, Parks, and Tourism in Public Health

Recreation, Parks, and Tourism in Public Health (ISSN 2474-1825, e-ISSN 2474-1833) is an interdisciplinary journal focusing on parks, recreation, and tourism’s impact on public health. Articles will share research and community models that focus on the relation between parks, recreation, and tourism and their impact on healthier lifestyles.

The journal’s aim is to encourage researchers and practitioners to submit conceptual and/or applied papers related to municipal, state, and national parks and recreational and tourism services within the lens of public health. The source of manuscripts will be generated from researchers and professionals who have presented at the previous National Symposium: Parks and Recreation in Public Health. Subsequent sources will include national and international scholars and professionals.

Papers can be submitted in a number of formats including:

1. Original Research: All manuscripts submitted as original research are limited to a maximum of 9,000 words. Authors must submit a structured abstract of no more than 250 words, with the following headings: Background, Objectives, Methods, Results, and Conclusions. The body of original research manuscripts should include four sections: Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion.

2. Community Model: These papers overview community programs that address a public health domain through evidence based strategies. Priority will be given to models that have included an assessment aspect to their implementation. The manuscripts do not need to follow the traditional research format but should include an introduction, literature review related to model development, model overview, assessment, and discussion. Authors must submit a structured abstract of no more than 250 words.

3. Research Reports: Research reports are not considered full research articles but can be works in progress or discussion notes seeking to advance a new idea, theoretical perspective, research program, or methodological approach related to recreation, parks, and tourism in public health. Findings could include data from early stages of a research project orpreliminary/pilot work that may not be appropriate for an original research submission. Research Reports may follow a less strict paper outline but still needs to make a valuable contribution. Research reports are limited to 2,500 words including all notes and references, plus an abstract (50-100words) and 3-5 keywords.

4. Practitioners’ Perspective: These manuscripts reflect the perspectives and insights of professionals that are in the field and participating in recreation, parks, and/or tourism efforts to improve public health. Authors of the Practitioners Perspective are encouraged to be creative in their submissions. These articles need not follow a traditional journal article format. They should be no more than 1500 words, and should have an unstructured abstract of no more than 150 words. Reviewers will be looking at the depth and descriptions of the particular public health initiative involved.

5. Scholars’ Perspective: These papers give an opportunity to offer theoretical,methodological, and/or analytic techniques and approaches that could beuseful in promoting and/ or implementing strategies to further the impactof recreation, parks, and tourism on public health. Content could includeoriginal research or related literature that would support the author’spremise. Manuscripts must be no longer than 1500 words with a structuredabstract of no more than 250 words.
