CfP: Labor Network, Annual Meeting of the Social Science History Association, Chicago, 11/17-20/2022
Please consider submitting a paper abstract or session proposal to the Annual Meeting of the Social Science History Association (SSHA), scheduled to be held in Chicago on November 17-20, 2022. The final deadline for submissions is Friday, March 4, 2022. By that deadline, the Labor Network welcomes individual paper submissions, full paper panel submissions, book ('author-meets-critic') sessions, and roundtable sessions.
The submission portal, through which you may submit proposals, is here: https://ssha2022.ssha.org//
Details for conference can be found here: https://ssha.org/conference/
The Conference Theme, “Reverberations of Empire: Histories, Legacies & Lineages” and SSHA-wide call can be found here: https://ssha.org/files/2022_SSHA_CFP.pdf
- comparative and historical perspectives on work;
- global, national, and local labor movements;
- class formation and mobilization;
- inequalities of race, gender, religion, ethnicity, and sexual orientation as they shape work and class organization;
- informal economies, unfree labor, and precarious work;
- social movements, unions, and working-class organizations and cultures;
- immigration and family structures
We highly recommend the submission of full panels (3-4 participants/papers), and we will do our best to recruit Session Chairs and Discussants, if needed. If you are planning to attend SSHA, please consider volunteering for these roles.
At this time, it is still uncertain whether SSHA 2022 will have a virtual option. Therefore, although we hope to extend some possibilities for virtual participation, please consider that the conference will likely be an in-person event. That said, you may indicate in your paper abstract or proposal submissions each participants’ preference for in-person or virtual, and this will help shape the decision-making process of the Program Committee. There is no financial cost to submission, and we welcome all submissions even if the future is uncertain.
Note too that SSHA leadership is also looking into redesigning the registration fee scale to provide more affordable options for participation, especially for postdoctoral researchers, non-tenure track and contingent faculty, and independent scholars.
