CfA: Early career paper, Sufficiency and health(care) workshop, University of Oxford June 2023

Abstracts invited from early-career researchers (defined as researchers who have not held a permanent academic position) for a speaking slot in a two-day workshop on sufficiency and health(care), organised by the Wellcome-funded project Best Interests and Sufficient Benefit.

Abstracts should be anonymised, no more than 500 words, and can interpret the topic broadly. Possible topics include the definition of health in terms of sufficiency, sufficientarian approaches to healthcare allocation, the place of health in a (minimally) good life, the idea of a fair innings, and the relationship between sufficiency and disability. Papers critical of the idea of sufficiency are very welcome.

The workshop will take place on the 14-15 June 2023 at the Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics, University of Oxford. Accommodation and reasonable UK travel will be funded. The workshop will be primarily in person, but remote attendance can be facilitated if needed.

Please send abstracts in .pdf, .doc., or docx. format to Benjamin Davies with the email line ‘Sufficiency and Health(care) abstract. Your name, institutional role and institution (or indicate ‘independent researcher’) should be in the email body, but not the attached document. The deadline for submission is March 17 2023, at 5pm UK time, and a decision will be made and indicated to everyone within one week of submission.
