CfP: ICHST 2025 - Epidemics and sustainability in history symposium

The Division for the History of Science and Technology (DHST) are organizing a symposium titled "Epidemics and sustainability in history" for the 27th International Congress of History of Science and Technology, which will be held (in hybrid format) on 29 June - 5 July 2025 in Dunedin, New Zealand (https://www.ichst2025.org/).

This symposium aims at exploring the historical interplay between epidemics and sustainability within a ""healthy"" globalized world. Aligning with the Congress theme of Peoples, Places, Exchanges, and Circulation, it emphasizes situating local knowledge and practices within both local and global contexts to reflect how global perspectives influence local, national, and regional studies in the history of science, technology, and medicine (HSTM).

The symposium highlights the importance of the circulation and movement of knowledge, techniques, texts, people, and material objects across borders. Contributions will explore how these interactions have resulted in new configurations in the history of epidemics and sustainability.

By integrating expansive, connected histories with global participation and providing a platform for diverse voices and materials, this symposium fosters interdisciplinary connections to support new trends in the historiography of epidemics and sustainability.

Proposals are welcome of case studies before 27 November. Please send a title, 200-300 words abstract and a short bionote to: Isabel Amaral, Ana Maria Farga, Gisele Sanglard or Alexandra Esteves.
