LA MEDECINE ET L’HUMANITAIRE
Fondation du CICR, 150e anniversaire
A l’occasion du 150ème anniversaire de la fondation du CICR et du mouvement de la Croix Rouge Internationale, l’Institut d’histoire de la médecine et de la santé, Université de Genève, en collaboration avec le Centre de recherches historiques - Genève humanitaire, le Département d’histoire contemporain, Université de Genève, et la direction médicale du CICR, organise une série d’activités de recherche et de colloques en 2013 et 2014.
Le thème choisi pour ces initiatives est le rôle de la médecine, des médecins et du personnel soignant dans son ensemble dans la création du CICR, du droit international humanitaire et de la diffusion de nouvelles pratiques et d’une nouvelle sensibilité en faveur des victimes de conflits. Une attention particulière sera donnée à l’affirmation du principe de neutralisation du personnel soignant lors de conflits, thème qui est, aujourd’hui encore, d’une grande actualité. Vue l’ampleur du sujet, cette initiative sera articulée en quatre phases. Les deux premières seront destinées aux années de fondation du CICR (1863-1870) et à l’activité du CICR durant les guerres entre 1870 et 1918. Elles se tiendront respectivement les 14-15 février 2013 et 24-25 octobre 2013.
La première phase s’articulera autour des sujets suivants :

· Le rôle de Louis Appia et de Théodore Maunoir
· Le statut des services sanitaires des armées au milieu du XIXe siècle
· Henry Dunant et Un souvenir de Solferino
· Le facteur de l’émotion et l’émergence d’une éthique humanitaire
· Les Congrès universels de bienfaisance
Acteurs
· Médecins et pionniers : Henri Arrault, Johan Christian Basting, Alvarez de Carvallo Landa, Francis Lieder, Florence Nightingale, Ferdinando Palasciano, Anatoli Pirogov, van Holsbeck et Uytterhoeven, etc.
· Le changement de la sensibilité et des mentalités
· L’importance de la communication
Conséquences
· La neutralisation du personnel soignant
· Le « premier » métier de femme : infirmière
· Les changements de techniques (médicales et militaires), des moyens de transports, des hôpitaux
· Les dimensions médicales de l’action humanitaire
· L’émulation entre les Sociétés nationales de la Croix-Rouge naissante, par les expositions, les concours, les publications.
La deuxième phase aura pour thème A l’épreuve du feu, 1870-1918.

Foundation of the ICRC, 150th anniversary
At the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the ICRC and the International Red Cross movement, the Institute for the History of Medicine and Health, Geneva University, in collaboration with the Center for Historical Research – Genève Humanitaire, the Department of Contemporary History, Geneva University, and the Medical Direction of the ICRC, are organizing a series of research activities and colloquiums in 2013 and 2014.
The theme chosen for these activities is the role of medicine, physicians and sanitary staff in the creation of the ICRC, international humanitarian rights, and the diffusion of a new sensibility in favor of the victims of conflicts. Particular attention will be given to the affirmation of the neutrality of health care givers in conflicts, subject which is still actual, and of importance, today.
In view of the magnitude of this subject, this initiative will take place in four phases. The first two will concern the founding years of the ICRC (1863-1870) and its activity during the wars between 1870 - 1918. They will be held respectively on February 14-15, 2013, and October 24-25, 2013.
The first phase will be on the following subjects:
