The British Library leads and
collaborates in growing the world’s knowledge base. Since 2009, with funding
from the Arcadia Fund, National Life Stories has been recording in-depth oral
history interviews with British scientists for An Oral History of British Science project. The new innovative ‘Voices of Science' web
resource will showcase and provide online access to curated content from the
100 audio and 20 video interviews as part of the British Library’s Web
Redevelopment Programme.
This new part-time (3 days a week or
equivalent hours), 6 month fixed-term position of Web Co-ordinator will play a
crucial role in the successful launch of ‘Voices of Science.’ The post holder will collate content, be
responsible for the integrity of the metadata for all assets (audio, video,
images and text) in excel, and upload the metadata into the British Library’s
Content Management System. The Web Co-ordinator
will work as an integral member of the Oral
History of British Science team within the Library’s Oral History section
to deliver this exciting web resource by the end of March 2013.
We are seeking a graduate (or candidate
with equivalent experience) with excellent keyboarding and literacy skills, a
good eye for detail, experience of working with websites and/or data upload,
with excellent interpersonal and team-working skills. This role would suit an applicant with an
interest in one or more of the following: oral history, the history of science
and web design. We would like the
successful candidate to start work on Monday 15 October, or as soon as possible
after this date.
