The [Oxford] Encyclopedia of Islam and Philosophy,
Science and Technology, one in a series of four reference works on Islamic
studies, will be published in 2013 as a part of Oxford's award-winning
reference program, which includes The Oxford Encyclopedia of the Islamic World
and Oxford Islamic Studies Online.
The Encyclopedia is currently seeking submissions from
500 to 2,000 words on the philosophical and scientific dimensions of Islam and
history and the Muslim world.
Individual articles are required in the following topic
areas:
. Biographies of major figures of philosophy, science,
and technology from the classical through the modern period
. Overviews of important scientific, philosophical, and
religious concepts in the Islamic tradition, such as theories, models, and the
relationship of science and religion to new phenomena
. Overviews of important scientific and philosophical
disciplines
. Analyses of key terms
. Summaries of important scientific and theoretical
movements and schools of thought
. Instruments and devices, including maps, paper, mills,
and tools
. Main institutions for learning science and philosophy,
including schools, libraries, and observatories
. Major events, including discoveries, inventions, and
encounters.
