Excellence Cluster 264 Topoi - The Formation and Transformation of Space and Knowledge in Ancient Civilizations

Postdoctoral Fellowship Announcement (Ancient History)

The Junior Research Group D-5-5 “Between knowledge and innovation – balances” of Excellence Cluster 264 Topoi invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral research position. Pursuant to DFG guidelines, the fellowship will be awarded for two years and include a stipend of between 1365 and 1467 euros per month. A child allowance will be made available in accordance with DFG guidelines.

Applicants should be fluent in English and hold a doctorate in Ancient (Greek and Roman) History, preferably with a specialization in the History of Ancient Economy or Technology. The ability to work in German would be an asset. 

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct academic research in a field related to the research interests of the group and to produce a study of wider scope. Based on the example of the balance, the group investigates innovation processes in antiquity and late antiquity. Furthermore, he/she will be actively engaged in all activities relevant to the research group including the organization and realization of workshops and conferences as well as the participation in its operation and activities. The position is based in Berlin.

The Junior Research Group D-5-5 “Between knowledge and innovation – balances” of Excellence Cluster 264 Topoi invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral research position. Pursuant to DFG guidelines, the fellowship will be awarded for two years and include a stipend of between 1365 and 1467 euros per month. A child allowance will be made available in accordance with DFG guidelines.

Applicants should be fluent in English and hold a doctorate in Classical Archeology by the time the appointment begins. Preferably the candidates should have a specialization in the Greek and Roman period, be acquainted with methods of Computational Archeology and have some experience in working with archeological artifacts. The ability to work in German would be an asset.

He/she will in particular participate actively in the groups campaigns to survey balances preserved in various collections throughout Europe. The position is based in Berlin.
