One-Year Temporary Visiting Assistant Professor

Required: Requirements for Ph.D. in history of technology or a related field must be completed by August 1, 2013. Job begins August 26, 2013.

Preferred: Some research publications; 1 or 2 years teaching experience.

Area of specialization: history of technology that complements strengths in history of science and technology and related areas at the University.

Area of competence: ability to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in the history of technology. Candidates will be assessed according to overall academic preparation in the history of technology; the relevance of their research to the program's academic priorities and the field of inquiry; and evidence of commitment to teaching and skills as a teacher. This search is for a one-year temporary Visiting Assistant professor, but is open for possible appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level. The competitive salary includes full benefits.                

Duties/Responsibilities: The Appointee will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in Technology and American Culture (HSci 3331) and Ethics in Science and Technology (HSci 3401) (these two courses often have a small number of graduate students), plus an upper division course in the history of technology or science that would complement the existing course schedule (see www.hstm.umn.edu ). The Appointee will also be expected to be an active member of the HSTM program and provide advice to graduate students in the history of technology.

The Program has particular strengths in the history of the biological sciences, technology, physical sciences, and social history of science in the United States. The program offers M.A. and Ph.D. degrees and teaches undergraduate students from across the university.
