ASSISTANT CURATOR

Applications are invited for the post of Assistant Curator in the Whipple Museum of the History of Science.  This is a new post designed to assist the Director and Curator of the Museum, taking joint responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of the Museum’s strategy for maintaining, organising and developing the Museum, its collections, services and profile; facilitating access, preparing exhibitions, supporting research and teaching as appropriate.

Applicants should hold a first degree in History and Philosophy of Science or an allied discipline, and having a PhD on a topic in this field is also desirable. Applicants should have extensive knowledge of the subject area and will ideally be a specialist in Science since 1800 with expertise in the Material Culture of the Sciences. You will need to have an understanding of the range of the museum’s collections as well as a demonstrable knowledge of other branches or aspects of the field and the principles and practice of museum documentation and collections management.

Applicants will also need a pro-active approach, good time-management and planning skills, together with excellent writing, communication and computer skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a busy and varied team and network outside of the team.
