World Veterinary History Conference, London, 10-13 Sept 2014

This is an advance notice of the biennial meeting of the World Association for the History of Veterinary Medicine, to be held at Imperial College London, 10-13 September 2014, with receptions at Kings College London and the Royal Veterinary College.

The organising committee look forward to welcoming historians and veterinary surgeons to this exciting meeting. There are two themes for the conference (although free communications are also accepted):

1) The History of One Health

To include: the history of zoonotic diseases, comparative medicine, veterinary public health, antimicrobial resistance, the animal as research tool, veterinary-medical relationships.

Key note speaker: Professor Donald Frederick Smith, Professor of Surgery and Dean Emeritus, Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine

2) War, Animals and the Veterinary Profession To include: the use of animals in warfare, their acquisition, training, transport, breeding, and their management in health and disease. The wartime roles of vets in the military, agriculture, and general protection of animal health and welfare. The relationship between war and the development of veterinary knowledge and institutions.
