Studies at New York University invites applications for two
Postdoctoral Faculty Fellow positions to begin September 1, 2020,
pending administrative and budgetary approval.
Liberal Studies provides a unique interdisciplinary educational experience to undergraduate students. The Liberal Studies Core consists of a two-year interdisciplinary global curriculum drawing on great works across civilizations. The Global Liberal Studies Bachelor of Arts, one of NYU’s premier liberal arts degrees, builds on the global core with an upper division set of interdisciplinary concentrations that direct students toward different areas of global study.
Liberal Studies Postdoctoral Faculty Fellows teach one course for the first semester, and two courses for each subsequent semester in the Liberal Studies Core. Fellows work closely with an assigned Faculty Mentor, they attend pedagogy workshops that explore innovative approaches to interdisciplinary global teaching, and they have the opportunity to lead faculty development workshops or host program wide events in their area of scholarly, creative, or pedagogical expertise. Fellows are appointed for two years, renewable for a third year based on performance and programmatic need; they are non-tenure track and non-renewable beyond the third year.
We seek postdoc applicants in the following areas:
Arts and Cultures:
PhD in Classics, English, Comparative Literature, World Literature, Art History, or Anthropology with arts focus. Candidates should have the ability to teach the arts produced across the globe in a variety of media from antiquity to the early 18th century in the Arts and Cultures sequence of the Core Curriculum.
Writing:
PhD in Writing Studies, Journalism, Translation Studies, or Creative Writing. Candidates should have the ability to teach the first-year writing sequence of the Core Curriculum with a global emphasis that engages works in English and in translation.
Minimum qualifications: a Ph.D. in hand by the date of appointment; commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching required. Some college-level teaching experience, and publications or other evidences of outstanding scholarship and relevant professional activity are desirable. Successful candidates will have received the Ph.D. no more than three years before taking up the appointment. Salary is $45,000 p.a. plus University benefits. Fellows will be provided with offices, computers, and professional development funds.
