CfP: AI in Science: Lessons from the Ongoing Revolution

A thematic issue of Teorie vědy / Theory of ScienceAI in Science: Lessons from the Ongoing Revolution.

The current rapid advances in Artifical Intelligence (particularly LLMs) hold enormous promise for the sciences, ushering in a deep and potentially paradigmatic change. AI will impact existing methods and practices, and will also transform the ways in which scientists and philosophers view and understand scientific reasoning and explanations, hypothesis generation and testing, interpretability and explainability of results, and so forth.

We invite authors to critically reflect on these changes from scientific, philosophical or interdisciplinary perspectives with contributions on topics such as:

  • Unique opportunities and wider implications associated with AI deployment in concrete scientific fields of natural or social sciences and humanities;
  • Effects of AI on the traditional scientific process, and the ways in which new AI-driven methodologies will reshape scientific work and practices;
  • Benefits and challenges of human-AI collaboration in science including potential risks (overreliance, alignment etc.);
  • Other topics at the intersection of AI, philosophy, or cognitive sciences broadly conceived.

To accommodate the dynamics of the field, we suggest two possible formats for your contributions:

Essays for immediate publication (non-peer reviewed) – These texts will not be subjected to the standard peer review process and will only be evaluated by the Teorie vědy / Theory of Science editorial team who will also decide on their acceptance and publication on the journal’s website. Any subsequent use of these papers for the journal in its electronic and printed form will be negotiated individually with the authors.

Standard articles (peer-reviewed) – Original research, thematic, survey, or review articles, which will undergo a standard peer-review process as described in Peer Review Process teorievedy.flu.cas.cz/index.php/tv/about/editorialPolicies#peerReviewProcess .

The deadline for your submissions is August 30, 2024 .

We look forward to receiving your contributions (in Czech or English language).
