Duke University Job Posting - Trent Professorship in Medical Humanities

Josiah C. Trent Professorship in Medical Humanities

Duke University seeks a distinguished scholar to fill the Josiah C. Trent Professorship in Medical Humanities.  The position will be situated within the Trent Center for Bioethics, Humanities & History of Medicine, an interdisciplinary program for the examination of ethical, historical and social questions at the intersection of science, medicine, history, religion, and law.  The recipient of the professorship will play a leading role in strengthening Medical Center and University programs and will hold joint appointments in both the Duke School of Medicine and another school most relevant to the scholar’s field (e.g., Trinity College of Arts and Sciences, Sanford School of Public Policy, Divinity School, School of Law) with the primary appointment to be negotiated.
Candidates must have a doctoral degree, such as MD, PhD or JD, and have demonstrated outstanding scholarship in his or her field.  Teaching and administrative activities may include teaching undergraduate, graduate and medical students, mentoring junior faculty, and participating in scholarly activities across the University. It is anticipated that these activities will occupy approximately 50% of the faculty member’s time, leaving the remainder for independent scholarship.  Depending on the successful candidate, the responsibilities may also include clinical time. The final distribution of duties will be negotiated.
