Call for Articles KOME, an international Open Access journal published by the Hungarian Communication Studies Association is currently seeking articles for its future issues. The journal aims to create a platform for an innovative interdisciplinary discourse in the field of communication and media studies, with a focal point on pure communication inquiry. KOME is a theory and pure research-oriented journal of communication studies and related fields. Therefore theoretical researches and discussions that helps to understand better, or reconceptualize the understanding of communication are its centre of interests; being either an useful supplement to, or a reasonable alternative of current communication theories. Scholarly perspectives with the aim of creating an intellectual plus in the metatheory of communication, policies or research methods are especially welcomed, as well as linguistic or etymological analyses. The next Forum for Early Modern Women: An Interdisciplinary Journal , Vol. 11, issue 1, to be published October, 2016, will be on women and science .  Topics to be considered may include  any subject that addresses the activity of women in science (including medicine), natural philosophy, or natural history broadly conceived in the period from 1350 to 1750.  Forum pieces may consider, for example, women as scientists in any field, the influence of women as patrons of scientists and academies, or the scientific study of gender.  Proposal on related topics are welcome. Please send an abstract of 300 words to either mlindemann@miami.edu or msuzuki@miami.edu .  We will respond promptly.  The completed Forum essays of approximately 3000-3500 words will be due on January 15, 2016.

You can view the latest batch of recent doctoral dissertations harvested from the issues 75-12 A and B of Dissertation Abstracts pertaining to aspects of the history of medicine and science care at the following URL:   http://www.hsls.pitt.edu/histmed/dissertations ProQuest has altered how they put out their individual issues.   No longer do they correlate to one month, so the dating is more random.   Thus titles will range from 2015-yes they have some 2015 dates-back into the late 1990’s. There is one additional aspect to point out about this latest batch of dissertations that make it unique.   The University of Southern California downloaded the past 75+ years of its dissertations into the current issues-thus you will find titles dating back into the 1920”s.   While there are no abstracts for these earlier works you can pull up the full text of these dissertations. Please share this information with your colleagues and students.             

CALL FOR PAPERS We invite paper proposals for a session entitled “Interurban Network between Emerging Cities – Knowledge and Urbanisation in Europe’s Borderlands 1880-1945” at the next conference of the European Association for Urban History in Helsinki, 24-27 August 2016. Until now the cities of Eastern and Southern Europe have mainly been looked at through the prism of migration and institutions of technology transfer (such as universities). Implicitly or explicitly this suggests a transfer of knowledge and practices from the “center” to the “periphery” and hence a clear epistemological hierarchy. The panel proposed by the Herder-Institute (Germany) and the IMF-CSIC (Spain) would like to question this assumption. In order to do so we will focus on the exchanges in the areas of science, technology, medicine and urban planning between the emerging cities of borderlands such as Southern and Eastern Europe.
