Announcing the 3rd Notes and Records Essay Award



This biennial competition is open to researchers in the history of science, technology and medicine who have completed a postgraduate degree within the last five years. The unpublished essay, based on original research, should relate to aspects of the history of science, technology and medicine covered by the journal.

The 2012 winner was Meghan Doherty, for her essay entitled 'Discovering the “True Form:” Hooke’s Micrographia and the Visual Vocabulary of Engraved Portraits' – see http://dx.doi.org/10.1098/rsnr.2012.0031. The essay is a detailed analysis of Robert Hooke’s artistic connections and his studies of drawing.

The award includes a cash prize of £500.

The deadline for submission of an essay is 31st January 2014.
