Convocatoria abierta Contrato doctoral. Género e investigación: culturas antibióticas
Se ofrece un contrato doctoral de tres años en el Instituto de Filosofía del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, en Madrid, como parte del proyecto: “How did the Antibiotic Pipeline Run Dry? People, Infrastructures and Politics of Antibiotic Drug Development 1970-2010” (DryAP).
El propósito del contrato es la formación investigadora que conducirá a la presentación de una tesis doctoral. El contrato es parte de un proyecto financiado por el Agencia Noruega de Investigación, liderado por Christoph Gradmann, de la Universidad de Oslo.
El comienzo del contrato está previsto para septiembre de 2021.
DryAP es un proyecto de historia crítica de la ciencia, la medicina y la industria farmacéutica, de la historia de los antibióticos, incluida la dimensión de género de la práctica investigadora tanto en laboratorios públicos como en aquellos pertenecientes a la industria farmacéutica desde 1970.
DryAP está en vigor desde 2021 hasta 2025 y cuenta con socios en la Universidades de Dinamarca, de Estrasburgo, de Dublin y del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas que colaboran en el estudio de las diversas dimensiones de un cambio fundamental en la investigación y producción de agentes antimicrobianos. El proyecto se compone de subproyectos que investigarán laboratorios de investigación, objetivos industriales, colecciones de cultivos, género y científicas, y los debates sobre políticas de salud. Esos estudios se desarrollarán como proyectos doctorales con los socios.

La investigación estará supervisada por María Jesús Santesmases, Profesora de Investigación del Instituto de Filosofía (CSIC, Spanish National Research Council), in Madrid.

Cualificación requerida
- Grado de Master preferiblemente en historia y filosofía de la ciencia y/o estudios de género y ciencia en el momento comenzar el trabajo.
- Muy buen conocimiento y uso de la lengua castellana.
- Buen nivel de inglés hablado y escrito
- Habilidades para abordar de forma crítica la investigación, con marcos conceptuales y teóricos propios de la historia de la ciencia, la medicina, y/o los estudios sobre científicas y género

Antibiotics cultures: Gender and research in the Spanish system of biomedicine and health - 1980s and 1990s.
A full-time, three-year PhD position at the Institute of Philosophy of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC, Spanish National Research Council) as part of the international project “How did the Antibiotic Pipeline Run Dry? People, Infrastructures and Politics of Antibiotic Drug Development 1970-2010” (DryAP).
The purpose of the fellowship is research training, leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.
The position is part of a new Norwegian Research Council-funded project (Research Projects for Scientific Renewal) led by Christoph Gradmann, at the University of Oslo.
Intended starting date is September 1st 2021.
DryAP is a historical project that will critically research the histories of antibiotics and drug development, including the gender dimension of research performance at both public and industrial research laboratories since about 1970.
DryAP, running from 2021 to 2025 is a project with partners in Denmark, France, Ireland and Spain, coming together in an effort to study various dimensions of a fundamental change that took a generation. Work packages in DryAP look at industrial laboratories, target definitions in drug development, culture collections, gender dynamics and how the empty pipeline figured in health policy debates. They will be pursued as PhD projects with the partners.
The successful candidate will do PhD work on Work Package 4: Antibiotics cultures: Gender and research in the Spanish system of biomedicine and health - 1980s and 1990s. The WP investigates gender cultures and politics of research on new antibiotics. Those collective spaces of expertise were composed of gendered norms and hierarchies in which health policy and industrial management participated, all during a period of an increasing awareness of antibiotic resistances. Microbiology in Spain was a key research domain and the Spanish collections of microorganisms joined in a wide topography of research, industrial and health policy practices that experienced the changes of both the laboratory and the factory line regarding antibiotics. In those spaces, gender will be the main research focus.
The PhD project will be supervised by Dr María Jesús Santesmases, Research Professor, History and Philosophy of Science, at the Instituto de Filosofía (Spanish National Research Council CSIC), in Madrid.

Qualification requirements
- Masters degree or equivalent, preferably in history of science/medicine and/or gender studies: The Master's Degree must have been obtained by the beginning of the contract.
- Very good skills in Spanish are a requirement
- Fluent oral and written communication skills in English
- Ability to engage critically with relevant theoretical and conceptual frameworks within the history of science and medicine, gender and women in science as well as related fields relevant to the project
