British Society for the History of Science Postgraduate Conference
Department of History and Philosophy of Science, Cambridge
5 - 7 January 2010
This annual 3-day event gives postgraduates in the history of science,
technology and medicine a chance to get to know each other and to present
their work to a wider audience in a supportive environment. In 2010 the
Conference will be hosted by the Department of History and Philosophy of
Science at the University of Cambridge.
We welcome submissions from both UK and overseas postgraduates working in
the fields of history of science, technology and medicine. Membership of
the British Society for the History of Science is not a requirement. We
strongly prefer participants to be present for the full duration of the
Conference.
Please submit an abstract of no more than 300 words. The abstract should
give an idea of your central argument, any key sources and your
methodological approach.
We are happy to accept individual abstracts and also welcome panel
submissions consisting of 3 or 4 papers with a unifying theme. Panels may
be drawn from a single institution or from several. In case of scheduling
difficulties, we reserve the right to break up panels if necessary. In
addition to individual abstracts, panel organisers should also include a
panel proposal of no more than 500 words. The proposal should draw out the
connections between the papers, whether based on time period, discipline,
approach to sources or something else entirely and give any required
context.
Whether proposed individually or as part of a panel, papers must be no
longer than 15 minutes, with further time for questions.
Please submit abstracts and panel proposals by email to
k.taylor@bshs.org.uk on the relevant form available at
www.hps.cam.ac.uk/bshspg2010/forms.html. All submissions must be made by
Monday 2 November. Abstracts and panel proposals will be considered by the
organising committee and decisions will be set out by Monday 16 November.
Registration and payment must be completed by Monday 30 November.
