Research Assistant for a Special Exhibition on Science and the Arts in
Early Islam.

The Museum of the History of Science seeks to appoint a Research
Assistant in connection with an exhibition provisionally titled
‘Sciences and Arts in Early Islam’, to open in October 2010. The person
appointed will have a broad interest in Islamic history, between the 9th
and the 18th centuries, combined with a knowledge of the material
culture of Islam in this period, but we are not looking for a specialist
in the history of science in Islam. The hours available will amount to
approximately half-time working for 7 months (April to October) but it
is hoped that the hours worked each week can be agreed in relation to
the varying requirements of the project (these are likely, for example,
to be greater in the early months). Pay will be on a paid as claimed
basis at Grade 06 on the University salary scale, £25,751-£33,600 pa pro
rata. Applications should be sent to the Administrator, Margaret Hauser,
at the Museum of the History of Science, Broad Street, Oxford OX1 3AZ,
Tel: +44-(0)1865-277280, Email: recruitment@mhs.ox.ac.uk, to arrive no
later than 16 April 2010. A Job Description can be seen on the Museum
web site at www.mhs.ox.ac.uk.
