New Russian/ International Journal "Studies in the History of Biology"

Dear Colleagues,

St. Petersburg Branch of the Institute of the History of Science and Technology, Russian Academy of Sciences, has begun to publish the new scientific journal “Studies in the History of Biology”. Our goal is to investigate historical aspects of biology and all connected disciplines such as medicine, agricultural sciences and geography, including veterinary, environmentalism, biogeography, etc, i.e. Life Sciences. The list of topics will also include different philosophic and sociological aspects of biology, history of ideas and institutions, and problems of institualization of biology.
The work of the Editorial Board will be based on following principles:
1.    The journal will accept texts for publication in two languages: Russian
and English. Each publication will have a summery – in English for a publication in Russian, and vice versa. Only the title and a list of contents of the journal will always be in two languages. Thus the journal, being based on the Russian ground, will be open for the international scientific community, applying a principle “global through local; local through global”.
2.    The editorial board will consist of scientists from different countries
3.    All texts will be reviewed before publication
4.    The journal will accept for publication only original articles, reviews
and book-reviews in the field of the history of biology. Articles that have already been published in English can be accepted for publication in Russian as revised version
5.    A big place will be allotted to publication of archival materials,
documents, memoirs of scientists and interview
6.    The journal will publish educational-methodic materials for teachers of
the history of science. For the same purpose we will publish bibliography of the most relevant research in the history of biology
7.    The section “Chronicle of Scientific Life” will contain articles and
brief notes about important events in different countries, related to history of biology, such as conferences, symposia, openings of monuments and memorial, reprints of well-known books, etc.

The editorial board invites all Russian and foreign researchers in the field of the history of biology for co-operation. We will be happy to receive any input, including critics, advice, notifications and proposals of improvements of the journal’s structure.  The editorial board will do its best to make this journal interesting and enjoyable. And again, this can happen only with the support of our respected readers and authors. The journal “Studies in the History of Biology” is to become our common brainchild.
