HSS in San Diego, Prize Nominations, NSF

Dear HSS Members,

I would like to call your attention to three items that may be of interest:
the call for papers for the 2012 conference in San Diego, a request for book
prize nominations, and a job opportunity at NSF.

1.      HSS and PSA in San Diego. The call for papers may be found on the
main page at http://www.hssonline.org. Please note that NSF travel grants
for graduate students, independent scholars and recent PhDs will be
available for those on the program. New requirements stipulate that grant
recipients must be US citizens or studying at a US institution. If child
care is needed at the meeting, please contact jay@hssonline.org. Other
inquiries may be sent to info@hssonline.org. The deadline for submissions is
2 April 2012.

2.      If you've read a great book in the field that was published in the
last 3 years (2009-2011), please consider nominating it for the Pfizer Award
or Davis Prize. Books that were published in the last 4 years are eligible
for the Levinson Prize and articles published in the last 4 years are
eligible for the Rossiter Prize.  We also seek nominations for the Hazen
Prize for excellence in education in the history of science. For a list of
our prize-winning books, a description of each prize, and a nomination form,
please go to http://www.hssonline.org/about/society_awards.html

3.      The NSF is looking for a new program officer for a 1-2 year
position. Please consider applying (or encouraging someone with the
requisite skill set to apply). The position of program officer offers
individuals a rare opportunity to make a profound impact on the field (and
you would have a terrific colleague in Fred Kronz). Further information
appears below.

Thank you for your membership in the HSS.
