Research associate post at Imperial College London
Imperial College London
Department of Surgery and Cancer
Division of Surgery
Researcher Associate
Salary: £28,770 - £32,750 per annum (pro-rata)
This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative and
creative team developing new methodological approaches to documenting recent
surgical history. The project is funded through a Wellcome Trust Award and its
emphasis is on using simulation to document the operating theatre as a social,
material and educational space.
The successful post holder will work with Professor Roger
Kneebone on a project investigating the social, technical and pedagogical
practices of surgery from the 1960s to the present day, working with senior
surgical teams. The project has developed an innovative methodological approach
and further work is required to consolidate and expand the concept.
Key responsibilities will include the planning,
coordination, execution and evaluation of a number of interviews/simulations
with retired surgical teams, building on successful earlier work within the
Wellcome Trust Research Award. The role will also involve consolidating and
assisting in the analysis of a body of data relating to simulation-based
re-enactments conducted during the project, and assisting in the preparation of
material for publication and presentation.
You must be a flexible and innovative individual with
excellent interpersonal skills and a keen interest in medical history and
simulation. You will have a PhD or equivalent in history, medical history,
social science or a related discipline.
This post is part time (30 hours per week) and fixed term
