CfP: I Legal SciComm Conference: Communicating Legal Research

Science communication is an increasingly important aspect of research. However, science communication usually refers to natural sciences or STEM, and little is known about public communication of the social sciences and humanities (SSH), including communication of legal research. On the other hand, researchers in the law and SSH are often portrayed as commentators rather than scientific experts.

To address this gap, the University of Coimbra Institute for Legal Research (UCILeR) is organizing the I Legal SciComm Conference Conference: Communicating Legal Research. This is a conference on the communication of legal research, as part of the Communication of Legal Research (Legal SciComm) project, to be held on November 30, 2023, at the Colégio da Trindade (Faculty of Law, University of Coimbra), Portugal.

We would be pleased to count on the experience of students and researchers in this important debate about the role and importance of the social sciences and the communication of legal research with society. We would like to exchange ideas on the development of initiatives for the communication of legal research (this includes the communication of legal research developed in undergraduate, master's, doctoral, postdoctoral, postgraduate, and specialization courses, as well as in free initiatives) and on various topics related to the communication of legal research with non-specialized audiences, such as the private sector and policy makers.

Possible topics include: the use of visual law, podcasts, social media, legislative theatre, videos, comics, press releases and other techniques in the communication of legal research, as well as science communication in the social sciences and humanities.

Abstracts in Portuguese or English with up to 250 words should be submitted by October 10, 2023.

The information on selected proposals will be done until October 25th, 2023.

After then conference, some authors may be invited to submit full papers for publication in an international journal with peer review.
