Call for Contributions Science, Technology, and the Non-Aligned Movement in the Global South

Contributions are invited for a thematic dossier for The Journal of History of Science and Technology focused on the Non-Aligned Movement as a significant framework for understanding the history of science and technology in the postwar Global South. This dossier will examine how non-alignment influenced the circulation of knowledge, technical expertise, and development initiatives.

Key areas of interest include:

  • The movement of experts and exchange of specialized knowledge
  • Forms of technical cooperation across the Global South
  • The role of scientists, engineers, and planners in state-building
  • Infrastructure and development projects as sites of political and technical negotiation
  • The institutional and political relevance of scientific and technological agendas

By gathering case studies from regions such as Eastern Europe, Latin America, and Africa, this dossier aims to illustrate how the Non-Aligned world served not only as a geopolitical project but also as a space where science, technology, and development were actively shaped.
