As part of a research project on Artists’ Collections in the Early Modern Netherlands (c. 1600-c. 1700) the University of Ghent and FWO (Research Foundation – Flanders) is looking for an excellent PhD candidate (full time / 2 x 2 year appointment). Project Up to now, the ever-growing literature on Early Modern collections has considered collecting primarily in terms of prestige, social status and the aesthetics of display. Rarely have historians considered the use of objects in collections or the activities inside the walls of collections, admittedly because source material that illuminates such aspects is often missing. Important exceptions are the collections of artists that, because of their owners’ artistic production, offer more sources to tackle such questions. Historia de la física en España en el siglo XX: balance y perspectivas Barcelona, 1 y 2 de diciembre de 2011 El simposio «Historia de la física en España en el siglo XX: balance y perspectivas» se inscribe en el proyecto “Bases para una historia de la física en España en el siglo XX” (Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación, HAR2008-05039), desarrollado por el Centre d’Història de la Ciència (CEHIC) de la Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona y en el que participan investigadores de la Universidad de Valencia y de la Universidad de la Sorbona – Pierre y Marie Curie, París. Join your colleagues from the History of Science Society, the British Society for the History of Science and the Canadian Society for the History and Philosophy of Science next July for what promises to be an exciting and stimulating meeting in the city of brotherly love.
