Recordatorio CFP: Historias alternativas de la fisiología en América Latina

Llamado de ponencias Coloquio internacional: “ Historias alternativas de la fisiología: En la búsqueda de miradas comparadas y transnacionales en América Latina ” Bogotá, Universidad del Rosario.  Agosto 7 y 8 de 2014. Les recordamos que el día  25 de marzo  se vence el plazo para el envío de resúmenes.   Con este coloquio queremos iniciar la construcción de una red de investigadores interesados en la historia de la fisiología y sus relaciones con la sociedad y la cultura desde una perspectiva latinoamericana (Red Latinoamericana de Historia de la Fisiología,  ReLaHiFi ). Buscamos identificar problemas transversales y nuevos campos de investigación histórica sobre la fisiología que alienten la construcción de análisis comparados y transnacionales, a la vez que conjuguen de manera creativa diversas aproximaciones historiográficas. Agnodike research travel fellowship

  The Commission on Women and Gender Studies in Science, Technology and Medicine of the DHST offers biannually a research travel fellowship up to 1000€ to scholars who are either in their final stages of their doctoral research or in the early stages of their post-doctoral research but still within four years of receiving the Ph.D. The research fellowship named by the first female physician and midwife in ancient Greece (4th c. B.C.) is intended to recognize and support the work of scholars who are in the early stages of their careers and assist those who need to travel to archives in order to complete their research. The Commission requires an application consisting of a cover letter, a research proposal, CV, and two letters of recommendation, one being from the PhD advisor. Call for Presentations: The Anatomy of Un/Reason: The Birth of Mental Illness and its Fate in Postmodern Culture October 10-11, 2014 Kraków, Poland We wish to invite you to attend the International Interdisciplinary Symposium The Anatomy of Un/Reason: The Birth of Mental Illness and its Fate in Postmodern Culture, during which we would like to discuss the aforementioned topics. Our aim is to exchange thoughts on the phenomenon of madness in modern and postmodern times. The Symposium is planned as an interdisciplinary project; one which shall outline the contexts as widely as possible. CFP - Edited Volume: Bridging the Local and the Global Through the Histories of Science, Medicine, Technology, and the Environment

Among the most important and exciting trends in recent historical scholarship has been the shift toward international, transnational, and global studies of the past. By moving beyond the nation state as a primary category of analysis, historians have begun to consider the ways that people, commodities, and ideas traverse geographical borders. They have worked to recover the histories of international organizations, both governmental and non-state. They have analyzed the reciprocal and hybrid nature of global exchanges. Thinking and practicing history transnationally has become a central analytical tool of the historical discipline. For all its value, however, this methodological and historiographical reorientation has suffered from one major drawback: by prioritizing global perspectives, historians risk neglecting local actors and events.
